MS(Abroad) in physics after engineering | Physics After Engineering blog

H ey fellow physics aspirants, as the community has been receiving a lot of physics aspirants who are opting for a masters abroad, we have prepared a list of top 500 colleges of European union(which excludes Great Britain). Why specifically European union you ask? European union has invested a lot of its budget into science and is funding a large volume of research institutes working on various fields of physics. As being said that the scope and opportunity to learn, experience and work in these research institutes is quite high when compared to other countries. The prerequisite for most universities in Europe is quite nominal and is about 55% of your bachelor's aggregate. Although one must be able to score well in GRE Physics as it adds a bit of extra points for you to be considered as an eligible candidate. The reason why I did not choose to include universities and colleges from Great Britain is because the opportunity given to immigrants studying there is substantially less ...

Physics internships for engineers (Through official Portals) | Physics After Engineering blog

A list of Physics Internships submitted by our readers. Apart from these, there are many other places you can apply to. This is in no way the complete list of institutes. You can even mail the profs of any institute personally and get an internship, You'll most likely not get paid this way so apply in places close to your home town or where a relative or a friend stays. I've written a complete post about the same here  How to get Internships by Mailing profs?  Albeit you'll not get paid through those your chances of being accepted are higher in these than the official portals. So, do try both ways.    If you know of any internships available for Engineers in Physics do fill in its details here.

How to get internships by mailing Profs. | PAE blog

B efore you start reading I want you to know the fact that the hit rate will be very less for the internships applied through emails, you should be ready to send dozens of emails without getting any reply. There's no upper limit though, you can send 50 or 100 or even above as far your desperation can take you. Even more importantly I want you to know that I myself have not landed one from any well-recognized institutes. I'm writing this just from my experience of applying to a lot of profs for the sole reason that a few people are eager to know about how to get an internship. Having said that, I've written all that I felt will benefit an applicant to the best of my knowledge. Any additions are welcome. Also you can find the list of Internships available through official portal  submitted by our group members. How do I discover the Profs working in my field of Interest? Go through the official websites of all the institutes and find the Mail-Ids...

IMSc, Chennai -IPhD interview experience- Sayan Mondal | Physics After Engineering blog

S o  let me share with you my Institute of Mathematical Science, Chennai interview experience. I didn’t have a particularly good interview, so I’m not expecting getting selected in this. There were 3 professors let’s call them A, B and C. Prof A gave me a choice between Electrodynamics and Differential Equations . I chose Electrodynamics. A: Write Maxwell’s Equation. I wrote them on the board. A: now please remove the Maxwell correction term. And tell me if the equations are consistent. Me: I tried to explain to them using the capacitor description that we were taught in Class 11-12. He listened to it and said to me that it is correct but asked me to show it through the four equations. I was struggling, so Prof. C gave me some hint: take divergence on the equations and I did so. After struggling a bit, at last, I arrived to the conclusion that the charge flow is not being conserved, so we need Maxwell’s correction.     Prof A n...

Books and videos for JAM - Sayan Mondal, HRI | PAE blog

Hello friends. I ’m Sayan , a BTech(EE) final year student from a private college in Kolkata. So this year I appeared for 3 exams :  TIFR-GS ( Not selected)  IIT-JAM (Rank-157) JEST (Rank 58). I started my preparations from 3 rd year, though at that time I wasn’t sure if I would be getting into physics. After my 5 th semester, I decided to appear for Physics PG entrance exams. So here are the resources I used: Mathematical Physics :                    Books:  Kreyszig , Boas . Videos: Gilbert Strang(have watched only a few videos on Linear Algebra and ODE.), one can follow 3B1B to appreciate Linear Algebra. From here basically, they ask about Matrices, ODEs, some integrals, etc. In interviews, they may ask about Bessel, Legendre, Hermite as well. Classical Mechanics :                         I just did the basics mainly from...

TIFR, Mumbai Physics Interview Experience - Chintan A.Patel | PAE blog

Image
TIFR Mumbai Experience                  TIFR Mumbai took the written test on 11th March 2019. Luckily I do have the question paper of this test. You can go through the images below. As with ICTS, we were supposed to attempt any 4 questions.                          I attempted the questions 1,2,3,5 and 6. I attempted an extra question since I was not getting the value of force as given in the 3rd question. I don't know whether they evaluated the last question or not. After lunch, we were taken to various labs on the campus. This was the most beautiful experience in my life. The orientation process completed at around 6 p.m. When I came out of the campus, the list of candidates shortlisted for the interview was attached on the notice board. I was glad to know that my name was on the list. 43 students were shortlisted for the interviews. Next day I arrived...

ICTS, Banglore Physics Interview Experience - Chintan A.Patel | PAE blog

Greetings to fellow Physics Aspirants ,              I am Chintan Patel from Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University and I would like to share my experience of interviews at one of the best research institutes in India i.e. ICTS-TIFR and TIFR Mumbai. This is my first blog post, so forgive me for any formatting errors.      So, I was aware of this institutes from the 2nd year of my B.Tech(yes, I am a Mechanical Engineering student). I came to know that there is an exam called TIFR GS, which is conducted by TIFR all over India to shortlist candidates for Integrated Ph.D. (IPhd) and Ph.D. programme at TIFR and its sister institutes like ICTS, NCRA, and TIFR Hyderabad. Preparation               So, I started preparing for this exam when I was in 3rd year of my B.Tech. The only difficulty in preparation was that the syllabus of the exam is completely unknown. So I started solving previous year pape...

How I secured AIR 55 JAM & AIR 26 JEST with BSc level Physics | PAE blog

Hi guys, I'm Bala Kumar. This is a short and to the point description of how I went about preparing for JAM and JEST. [Check out the elaborate posts here if that's what you are looking for] IIT JAM Preparation -Vaibhav Sharma  (AIR - 5) On preparing for IIT-JAM Physics  -Niket Shah  (AIR - 6) I started preparing 7-8 months before JAM and I’d say that’s more than enough time to easily crack the exam. I took coaching from Career Endeavor but I’d say it’s not worth it because they go slowly and in a haphazard manner. I’d highly recommend their books though. Sources First things first, if recommend starting off with Khan Academy videos on vector calculus : To get a good intuition for curl, divergence, and gradient. This will help you a lot with EMT and vector calculus.  R Shankar’s lectures on YouTube . His lectures will help build a great foundation.  Career endeavor material to read up on Kinetic theory of gases, Maxwell equations(thermodynamics), stati...
